No matter where you go in the province, it seems everyone in the tourism sector is experiencing the same challenges.

"The job pool of qualified employees is becoming less and less," Chris Regier, General Manager at the Days Inn, said.  "There was a period when the hotel was hiring just to fill a position without assessing the value of the person to the company."

That's why Regier and his management team are so excited to be part of the Transforming the Tourism Workforce project.  Not only is his staff enthusiastic to participate, he said they are becoming more confident as they put into practice what they are learning.

"We have been able to do some cross-training with [staff] which, without this training, wouldn't be possible," he said.

But Regier is the first to admit that developing the workplace skills of his staff is not the only reason he thinks the project will benefit the hotel.

"We would like to see these people continue on in this profession, moving them up inside our company," he explained.

Although he observed that it's becoming more difficult to find people "who look at the hospitality industry as a career", he said Days Inn is a good place for people to come to do just that.

"Days Inn Regina values its employees and believes that it is our responsibility to ensure that working for the company is a positive experience.  We want to see our employees recognize and leverage their strengths in order to meet professional and personal goals."

Days Inn offers accommodation, a continental breakfast, pool and waterslide, business centre, and fitness area.
