Training Overseas
In January 2010, two individuals in the
STEC Training Department,
Diane Cohoon and
Jan Rodda, travelled overseas to Manila, Philippines to train 11 facilitators at the Magsaysay Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA). The training was divided into three parts.
Part I
The first part of the training included the delivery of the
Facilitator Skills Development Workshop, which is designed to build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills for those who deliver presentations to adults. This is a requisite workshop for anyone interested in delivering
STEC training programs as a facilitator.
Part II
The second part of the training was an introduction to the 14
National Occupational Standards that MIHCA purchased as a result of its partnership with the
CTHRC to access
emerit training resources. Each of the 11 facilitators was required to develop a mock training session based on one of the Canadian standards below purchased by MIHCA.
Part III
The partnership between
STEC and
CITREC is facilitating a process that is not only making Canadian standards more accessible to foreign countries, but also is allowing STEC to become the source of standards-based training in the Philippines.
This success is made possible by
CITREC, which promotes Canadian education and training in foreign countries by partnering with Canadian public organizations, professional designation granting bodies, and credible institutions like
STEC overseas.
