As a tourism employer, you want to hire the best candidates for your establishment.  When job seekers have impressive credentials, it’s tempting to hire them on the spot.  But it’s important to remember that taking the time to do some checking will prevent problems later on.

 

When a potential employee indicates that they have received certification in a tourism occupation, make a call to the STEC office to verify their credentials.  In the past, individuals have falsely claimed certification or Journeyperson status to gain employment.  This puts a bad mark on our industry and is unfair to individuals and organizations that put their time and money into education and training programs.
