 Tourism Trainer
 
A Tourism Trainer uses his or her expertise to increase professionalism and skills of those working in the tourism sector by creating a positive learning environment through the design, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of learning activities.  The emerit Tourism Trainer program will build on your existing skills, so you can create the most effective methods for learning and learning retention.  This program will help you:
 
  • learn how to manage challenging behaviours.
  • create dynamic learning environments.
  • develop training programs for different learning styles.
  • increase employee productivity, confidence, and retention.
 
To receive Professional Certification as a Tourism Trainer, you must successfully complete an occupational knowledge exam, performance evaluation, and work experience.
 
Occupational Knowledge Exam: This 100-question multiple choice exam is based on the National Occupational Standard for Tourism Trainers.
 
Performance Evaluation: The performance evaluation consists of two parts: 1) an on-site evaluation in which the evaluator will observe you delivering a program (two to four hours of observation) and 2) the completion of a case study. 
 
Work Experience: You must complete a minimum of 1,500 hours of training experience.  Experience in tourism is considered an asset, though not required. 
 
Prerequisites: It is recommended that you take the Facilitator Skills Development Workshop*, as well as Adult Education and Facilitation workshops.
