Dear STEC,

A few days ago I was talking to a gentleman interested in coming to fish with us at our lodge this summer.  I thought his call might interest you.

Upon returning home from a Canadian fishing trip this year, he found himself reading an article about our lodge.  He told me what made him decide to call us was what the article had to say about guides.  He wanted to experience fishing with a guide like that.  His days of sharing a boat with someone incapable of providing an expected level of professionalism were over.

When I hear something like that I immediately think of our decision to ensure all our guiding staff is industry certified by STEC.  Freshwater Angling Guide certification has definately improved our guides performance and guest relations.  We have seen decreased staff turnover and increased guest satisfaction.  All that goes right to our bottom line, year after year.

That conversation reminded me I should be contacting someone at STEC soon about future needs for Freshwater Angling Guide certification.  When we began this certification process it involved every guide we employed no matter how many years they had been with us.  Today we require every new guide hired to complete STEC Freshwater Angling Guide certification.

Our thanks goes out to all those at STEC involved in the Freshwater Angling Guide certification process.  You have always helped us every step of the way.  With [your] support, it all seems to happen so smoothly.  We look foward to seeing more guides at our lodge achieve certification in the near future.

Yours truly,

Often the best information about local knowledge is oral.  To enhance the stories you tell clients about your area, find a long-time resident who is willing to tell you about the local history and folklore.

Industry Professionals Say
"
When it came to looking  for work in the outfitting industry, obtaining the Freshwater Angling Guide certification through STEC gave me an advantage over other applicants who were not yet certified.  This was just one more step I had taken that showed the lodge  [which] eventually hired me, Wollaston Lake Lodge, that I was serious about wanting to be in this field of work for years to come. "
