 Performance Evaluation

What is a performance evaluation?

A performance evaluation is a test of your knowledge, skills, and attitude on-the-job.  It is based on a selected range of criteria from the National Occupational Standard for your profession.  Depending on your occupation, the performance evaluation will be in one or more of the following forms:

  • an on-the-job assessment (which may be incognito).
  • a structured interview.
  • a case study.
  • submission of a portfolio.

Who conducts the performance evaluation?

A performance evaluation is conducted by a trained evaluator who is often certified in your occupation.

When will the performance evaluation take place?

The performance evaluation will usually take place within a month after you have submitted your Signatory Page/Request for Industry Evaluation form.

How will I know that I am being evaluated?

With the majority of occupations, the evaluation will be incognito and you will not know you are being evaluated.  Other occupations are not evaluated incognito, even though they have an initial observation period.  Still others have an interview component.

Will the evaluator come at my busiest time and ask for things I don’t normally do?

Evaluators objectively observe the candidate under normal working conditions.  The performance of skills outlined in the National Occupational Standard for your occupation must be observed.

What if I do not pass the performance evaluation?

Feedback will be provided to you on the skills you were unsuccessful in performing.  You can challenge the performance evaluation at a later date when you feel you are ready.

Can I be re-evaluated?

Yes, you can be re-evaluated if you are unsuccessful.  There is no limit to the number of times you can be evaluated, though a re-evaluation fee will apply.  Click here to view the cost of re-evaluations.
