 Employer of Choice

The Employer of Choice program is designed to assist your business in attracting and retaining employees.

Becoming an Employer of Choice is especially important in today’s economy and labour market, as an increasing number of employers are feeling the effects of:

  • low unemployment rates.
  • the pending retirement of baby boomers.
  • productivity challenges.
  • skills shortages.
  • recruitment and retention issues.

An Employer of Choice is a business where employee actions directly align with business goals, employees feel appreciated and valued for their work and are acknowledged and rewarded for their contributions.

The STEC Employer of Choice program will assist you in becoming an Employer of Choice by providing the tools and resources you need to:

  • engage in best practices.
  • increase the training of your employees.
  • improve your organization’s human resource practices.
  • be recognized as a leader in the tourism sector.

The Employer of Choice program was developed as part of the human resources strategy of the Saskatchewan Tourism Labour Market Partnership (STLMP).  In 2008, the STLMP recognized the need to attract and retain individuals with the necessary skills to support our province’s growing tourism sector.

Its 2008 publication, Charting our Future With the Best People, outlines a long-term human resources strategy and tactical plan that involves the implementation of an Employer of Choice program for tourism businesses in our province.

The Employer of Choice program is currently being piloted to Transforming the Tourism Workforce project participants.  In the spring of 2010, it will be extended to tourism businesses across the province.
