Standards and Certification
STEC and the Saskatchewan tourism sector have been involved in the development of 46 emerit National Occupational Standards. The emerit brand was developed by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council in collaboration with tourism professionals from across the nation.
We encourage you to pursue the certification process if you:
- are currently working in one of five industries in the tourism sector.
- have acquired the necessary skills and industry experience to challenge Professional Certification.
- are interested in challenging yourself against a professional benchmark developed by the collective expertise of industry leaders across Canada.

The first certification program was launched in 1990 in what was described by a former president of the Saskatchewan Restaurant & Food Services Association as “the birth of a profession”.
