Location: Swift Current is located in southwest Saskatchewan, along a creek that empties into the South Saskatchewan River.  It is home to the province’s oldest operating theatre, the Lyric.  Unlike most modern day cities that were settled long ago, Swift Current seems to have always been known by this name.  Hundreds of years ago it was referred to as “kisiskâciwan”, a Cree name that means “it flows swiftly”.  In the 1800s, fur traders named it “Rivière au Courant” which means “Swift Current”.
