Ready to Work - Tourism Careers (RTW) is a career awareness, skills development, and transition to employment program that assists individuals in finding long-term, rewarding careers in tourism. It offers practical classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, and on-the-job mentoring to under-represented groups interested in transitioning from unemployment and/or underemployment to the tourism workforce.
Since its inception in 1994, nearly 40 communities in Saskatchewan and over 2,600 individuals in more than 100 programs have participated in the RTW program, found long-term rewarding careers, returned to school and/or moved from frontline to supervisory positions.
This program is coordinated nationally through the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council and delivered in Saskatchewan by STEC, with support from federal, provincial, and community partners.
Ready to Work - Tourism Careers has provided job readiness training to over 2,600 individuals in Saskatchewan and over 10,000 in all of Canada.
RTW made me learn new respect for jobs in the tourism [sector], for example dishwashing [and] prep work. A lot more work than people think is involved. I learned to respect the various tourism jobs that are out there.
