STEC Partners with Canadian Organization to Train Overseas |
The Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council (STEC) recently partnered with the Canadian International Education & Training Corporation (CITREC) to assist foreign nationals from across the world access tourism and hospitality courses and training in their home countries. This follows a partnership with the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) that will allow the international community to access emerit training and to obtain an Occupational Knowledge Certificate in a classroom setting. "As a founding member of the CTHRC, STEC is regarded as a premium human resource organization in the tourism and hospitality sector," Ashwant Dwivedi, CITREC CEO, said. "CITREC is pleased to be associated with a tourism human resource organization that is committed to the provision of education and training that supports professional growth in Canada's tourism industry." All training materials used overseas will be based on the National Occupational Standards for 46 professions in the tourism sector, representing "the broad spectrum of tourism careers available today," Dwivedi said. CITREC promotes Canadian education and training in foreign countries by partnering with Canadian public organizations, professional designation granting bodies, and credible institutions overseas. The partnership between STEC and CITREC is facilitating a process that is not only making Canadian standards more accessible to foreign countries, but also is allowing STEC to become the source of standards-based training in the Philippines. "We are thrilled that Canada's tourism training is being recognized internationally," Carol Lumb, STEC Director, said. "It is a testament to the many industry professionals who are integral to the development of the occupational standards that are so widely used across Canada. To have these standards become available overseas validates the hard work and commitment of all involved." Other Saskatchewan partnerships that CITREC has entered into include an agreement with the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology to offer Canadian education to the citizens of Mauritius and the Southern African Development Community, which consists of 15 member countries.
