  • Tourism in Saskatchewan contributes nearly $1.5 billion annually in visitor expenditures.

  • Of the above revenue, domestic tourism visits account for 86%, expenditures on domestic air carriers for 5%, and U.S. and overseas visits for 9%.

  • In 2007, 4.3 million visits of one or more nights were made to and within Saskatchewan.

Expenditure and visitor data are from: Statistics Canada; Travel Survey of Residents of Canada 2007; and International Travel Survey 2007.  Tourism-related and tourism-specific jobs are estimated by Tourism Saskatchewan based on August Unadjusted Labour Force Survey data from Statistics Canada.  Tax revenues are estimated based on the Saskatchewan Tourism Economic Impact Model developed by Stephen Johnson for Tourism Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport.

Industry Professionals Say
"
It is important that we  be able to demonstrate the value of the tourism sector, in terms of both economic and employment benefit to Saskatchewan.  This is done through ongoing research provincially, as well as through our  partnerships on a national and international basis. "
