Our Partners
STEC partners with various national and provincial organizations, including:
We are grateful for the support of the many provincial and federal government ministries that have provided funding for various initiatives since our inception in 1990.
The
Canadian Academy of Travel and Tourism (CATT) is a charitable organization that introduces and promotes careers in tourism to high school students, while allowing them to continue their high school education. CATT is part of a national effort to support young people interested in furthering their education and
training in travel and tourism, and to support effective transitions from school to work in the tourism sector.
The academy gives high school students the opportunity to build a foundation for a career in tourism, while allowing them to stay in school and acquire the necessary skills for post-secondary education, life-long learning, and a future career in tourism.
Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council
The
Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) is a national, non-profit organization that facilitates human resource development in the Canadian tourism sector. The
CTHRC works on behalf of tourism businesses, labour unions, associations, educators, governments, employers, employees, and job seekers to address labour market issues and promote professionalism in tourism across the nation.
The Council is made up of a Board of Directors from various constituencies in the tourism sector, including: business, labour, national industry associations, education, national and provincial tourism authorities, government, and one organization in each province or territory concerned with labour market issues. In Saskatchewan, this organization is the
Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council (STEC). We deliver
CTHRC-sponsored programs and products throughout the province.
The
CTHRC offers skills
training and
certification under the
emerit tourism training brand and human resource tools for employers; assists individuals in preparing for work in the tourism sector through a national
Ready to Work - Tourism Careers program; provides an introduction to the tourism sector on its
Discover Tourism website; helps identify companies with positive HR practices through its employee-rated
Employer of Choice program; disseminates labour market information and national research to the tourism sector; and more!
Canadian International Training & Education Corporation
The
Canadian International Training & Education Corporation (CITREC) promotes Canadian education and training in foreign countries by brokering partnerships between Canadian public institutions, professional designation granting bodies, and credible institutions overseas. As an organization that specializes in bringing Canadian institutions to the world and making Canadian education more accessible internationally, it prepares youth to become leaders and to succeed in the global workforce. CITREC prides itself on being an organization committed to quality, not quantity.
STEC's partnership with
CITREC will assist foreign nationals across the world in accessing tourism and hospitality courses and training in their home countries. This follows a partnership with the
CTHRC to provide the international community with access to
emerit training and to obtain an Occupational Knowledge Certificate in a classroom setting. To learn more about the partnership between STEC and CITREC,

- designate the trades in which certification and apprenticeship training are available.
- register apprentices and Journeypersons, monitor their training, and provide certification.
- represent Saskatchewan on interprovincial initiatives.
- make regulations that ensure the apprenticeship system is operated efficiently and effectively in order to meet the needs of all sectors in a timely manner.
Saskatchewan Hotel & Hospitality Association
The
Saskatchewan Hotel & Hospitality Association (SHHA) is one of our long-standing partners. The SHHA is a founding board member of
STEC and served as treasurer until we merged with the Saskatchewan Tourism Authority and the Tourism Association of Saskatchewan (TISASK) to create
Tourism Saskatchewan in 1996. Currently, the
SHHA is a member of our President’s Education & Training Advisory Committee, the Tourism Labour Market Partnership Group, and is the chair of the Saskatchewan Server Intervention Committee advisory group.
The
SHHA acts as the voice of the
accommodation and hospitality industry in Saskatchewan. Its mission is “to build and strengthen relationships within the accommodation and hospitality [sector] through programs and services that will provide growth for [its] members and service to [its] customers, now and into the future.”
Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology
STEC sits on
SIAST’s Recreation & Tourism Diploma Program advisory committee. We also work closely with the Hotel & Restaurant Management Diploma program to coordinate the Skills Competition locally and with businesses who are applying to
SIAST’s Job Start Future Skills program. This program supports the
training of new hires in a new position.
Saskatchewan Outfitters Association
The main objective of the
Saskatchewan Outfitters Association is “to encourage and promote a standard of services within [its] membership, to establish liaisons with various [industries] affecting the [sector], to assist and inform its membership in areas of marketing and promotion and to inform its members of services that assist in their operation within the industry.”
