STEC is a national leader. Thanks to the ongoing involvement of tourism businesses, provincial associations, the Saskatchewan government, and education and training providers, we have grown into one of the most active, service-oriented Tourism Human Resource Organizations in Canada.
We:
- have one of the highest per capita participation rates in Professional Certification across Canada.
- participate in over 95% of all national development activities. This ensures that Saskatchewan’s tourism sector is represented in all program and product development across the nation.
- work in partnership with the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission to offer apprenticeships in two trades: Food and Beverage Person and Guest Services Representative. These apprenticeships are the first of their kind in Canada.
- offer the Ready to Work – Tourism Careers program in Saskatchewan. This program is by far the most successful model of its kind in Canada and has been cited as a best practice by the Conference Board of Canada.
To date, nearly 3,000 people have successfully completed the Ready to Work - Tourism Careers program in Saskatchewan. Of this figure, 75% are working full-time and/or have returned to school.
