Awards and Achievements
 
STEC and staff have received numerous awards since 1994, ranging from recognition for excellence in training to participation in educational programs and career initiatives.  Likewise, our achievements span advisory committee appointments and successful partnerships with educational organizations, Aboriginal circles, and youth internship programs.

Summer Youth Internship Program
 
STEC received this award from the Saskatoon Industry Education Council in recognition of our outstanding participation and commitment to its Summer Youth Internship program.
 
2007
 
Outstanding Evaluator Award
 
Diane Cohoon, Manager of Training, is the recipient of an Outstanding Evaluator Award in recognition of her commitment to certification.
 
Saskatoon Public School Division Certificate of Appreciation
 
This certificate of appreciation was awarded to STEC by the Saskatoon Public School Division for cooperating with the Secondary School Career and Work Education Programs.
 
Training for Excellence Award
 
STEC received this award from the Saskatchewan Labour Market Commission for demonstrating excellence in Career Enhancement.
 
2006
 
Outstanding Technical Training Team
 
STEC received the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission’s award for Outstanding Technical Training Team in 2005-2006.  The award acknowledges the team’s innovative delivery of tourism apprenticeship training for the trades of Food and Beverage Person and Guest Services Representative.  Team members included: Diane Cohoon, Manager of Training; Carol-Lynne Quintin, Standards & Certification Coordinator; Tim Ouellette*, Training Consultant; and Sue Gardiner*, Ready to Work Assistant. 
 
*Tim is currently an Industry Consultant with Tourism Saskatchewan.  Sue is an instructor at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) and a part-time Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor with Tourism Saskatchewan.  She also works as a facilitator for STEC.

Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board Training for Excellence Award
 
STEC received this award in recognition of Workplace Essential Skills Development.  It is presented annually to Saskatchewan organizations that create workplace training programs and services designed to meet the needs of industry and individuals.

Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board Training for Excellence Award
 
STEC received this award in recognition of Educational Partnerships and the contribution these partnerships make to the economic and social prosperity of our province.  This award is presented annually to Saskatchewan organizations that create workplace training programs and services designed to meet the needs of industry and individuals.

Holy Cross High School Work Education Program Certificate of Appreciation
 
This certificate of appreciation recognizes the training opportunity that STEC provided to students in the Work Education Program at Holy Cross High School.  The program assists students in making career choices and finding suitable employment in the community.
 
1995
 
Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board Training for Excellence Award
 
STEC received this award in recognition of our outstanding achievement in the area of Career Laddering.  This award is presented annually to Saskatchewan organizations that create workplace training programs and services designed to meet the needs of industry and individuals.  The award was presented by the Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board.

2008
 
In October, Carol Lumb, Director, was appointed to the Enterprise Saskatchewan Tourism Sector Team.
 
In April, Diane Cohoon, Manager of Training, and Carol-Lynne Quintin, Standards & Certification Coordinator, travelled to New York on an eight-person Assessor Team to assist with the training and evaluation of 100 employees at the Fairmont Plaza Hotel.  Staff at the Plaza was enthusiastic to have us on board.  To read more about this exciting achievement, click here.
 
In March, Carol Lumb, Director, was appointed to the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) Human Resources Circle of Influence.
 
2006
 
In March, the Saskatoon Preschool Foundation recognized STEC as an Educator of Distinction.  This achievement was acknowledged in celebration of education.
 
2003
 
In September, the Frontier College presented STEC with a certificate for providing support to children in the community through involvement with Frontier College.
 
In February, the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations’ Corporate Circle recognized and honoured STEC for participating in the 2003 Job Fair.
 
2001
 
In February, the Western Region IIA Metis Youth Council recognized STEC for participating in the Intern Employment Program.
 
Carol Lumb, Director, (alternate Diane Cohoon, Manager of Training) became an Advisory Committee member of SIAST’s Recreation and Tourism Management Diploma Program.
 
2000
 
In November, STEC was recognized as a member in good standing of the Saskatoon District Industry-Education Council.
 
Carol Lumb, Director, (alternate Diane Cohoon, Manager of Training) became an Advisory Committee member of Lakeland College’s Outdoor Adventure Diploma Program.
 
1995
 
STEC became a Youth Tourism Internship Partner when Carol Lumb, Director, signed a Business & Education Network Agreement with the Saskatoon Board of Education.  Other signatories to the partnership included: Saskatchewan Restaurant and Food Services Association, Saskatoon and District Chefs Association, Saskatoon Hotels Association, Tourism Industry Association of Saskatchewan, Tourism Saskatoon, and Wanuskewin Heritage Park.  The Business & Education Network enables Youth Tourism Internship Partners to develop contact with Saskatoon Board of Education schools by matching the needs of the schools and the resources of the partners in mutually beneficial ways.  The primary purpose of the program is to enhance education and encourage community interest in the schools.
 
1991
 
STEC was a member of the Tourism Standards Consortium (Western Canada) from 1991 to 2007 (two terms were served as the Chair).
